The Differences Between Hard and Soft Water

You’re undoubtedly familiar with the concepts of hard and soft water, but how much thought have you given to what makes water hard or soft? If you’ve never had access to soft water, you have no idea what you’re missing out on. After learning about the differences between the two, you’ll be ready to quench your thirst for soft water.

Hard Water

Naturally occurring minerals are what make water hard. Calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and potassium are just a few examples of the minerals that make the water “hard.” While the hardness of water isn’t necessarily discernible to your taste buds, it wreaks havoc on your skin, hair, and appliances. How? The minerals are left behind on all of these surfaces, making your skin and hair dry and brittle and and leaving chalky hard mineral deposits in your plumbing, on your water fixtures, and in your sinks, showers, and tubs. Appliances that use hard water often need to be replaced with greater frequency; water fixtures and other surfaces need to be cleaned far more often and with far more effort.

Soft Water

Traditional water softeners use salt to completely remove the minerals from the water before it reaches your plumbing. The water then becomes “slippery” and soaps, shampoos, and detergents may produce extra bubbles. These softeners require electricity, maintenance, and the salt must be replaced regularly.

The community is  Ematsuli Primary School , who will be receiving a rainwater harvesting system, 6 new latrines, and 2 hand-washing stations for the many students at the school.
